Yom Kippoer Alleen op Jom Kippoer wordt door iedere Jood gevast. Zo probeert men God om vergeving te vragen. Ook vasten de Joden als voorbereiding op een oorlog of tijdens agrarische rampen om deze zo te stoppen. Het overlijden van een koning, nationale leider of profeet was vaak ook een reden om te vasten.
